Ruth Gulyas, MHA, CEO
Ruth has over thirty years experience in the field of long-term care and has been Executive Director of LeadingAge Oregon since May 2002. Prior to this, she was Director of Assisted Living with the LeadingAge (formerly American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA)) in Washington, DC. Previous to going to DC, Ruth spent thirteen years with the state unit on aging in Alaska planning, developing and implementing home and community-based services (HCBS) for the elderly. Ruth has a Master of Health Administration and Certificate in the Study of Aging from the University of Washington, Seattle as well as a Retirement Housing Professional Certification and Assisted Living Manager Certificate.
Margaret Cervenka, Deputy Director
Margaret joined the LeadingAge Oregon team in March 1988 and has been involved in the development and coordination of many association programs during her tenure. As Deputy Director, she plans, coordinates and directs educational training and conferences. In addition, she oversees production of the assocation newsletter, represents LeadingAge Oregon on task forces and work groups, and serves as a resource for members seeking regulatory or technical assistance. Margaret has a Bachelor’s Degree in Editorial Journalism from the University of Washington.
Karen Nichols, Manager of Membership Services and Resident Programs
With a strong background in business, event planning and campaign consulting, Karen joined LeadingAge Oregon in October 2006. As Manager of Membership Services she coordinates the Association’s Group Purchasing Program, Employee Benefits Program, member relations and networking meetings, and plans and executes our conference sponsorships and trade shows as well as other special projects. As Manager of Resident Services, Karen coordinates three LeadingAge Oregon Resident Programs; the Ageless Art Contest and Exhibit, the Creative Writing Festival and publication of the creative writing book, Reflections, and the Volunteer Recognition Luncheon Programs.
Denise Wetzel, Administrative Coordinator and Bookkeeper
Denise joined LeadingAge Oregon in 2007 bringing her diverse business background to her role in administration. Her responsibilities include working with the Deputy Director on site details related to educational training, registrations, workshops and conferences, coordination of the ALF/RCF Administrator Training Program, website maintenance, as well as, accounting and other special projects.
